Freespace Ensemble brings together musicians from different musical backgrounds for exciting cross-genre collaborations. In this video, ensemble member and jazz pianist Hong Kong-born Joyce Cheung talks about her recent collaborations with local singer-songwriters Kiri T and Moon Tang, and the inspiring possibilities that such experiences open up.

Joyce Cheung is a Hong Kong-based jazz pianist, arranger and composer, and co-artistic director of festival organiser Music Lab. An established performer, she frequently collaborates with acclaimed Hong Kong artists such as Chan Fai-young, Joey Yung, On Chan and Grasshopper. Cheung spent her formative years at the Berklee College of Music, obtaining a first-class honours in Film Scoring, Contemporary Writing and Production in 2014, and a Master’s in Contemporary Performance in 2017. Her debut album Set Loose was released in September 2020. Also a passionate educator, Cheung currently works as a lecturer in the jazz programme at the Education University of Hong Kong.
