Vincy & the Prototyke Lab

Freespace Mixtape Vol. 1

Vincy & the Prototyke Lab

Vincy Chan & the Prototyke Lab is the latest project of local singer-songwriter Vincy Chan. The collective is a confluence of genre-hopping musicians looking to brew their own musical dialect. The current line-up features Vincent Chan (electric bass/Fair Oaks Trio),Frankie Fung (guitar), Atlas Iu (trumpet) and Billy Leong (percussion).

Vincy Chan is a multidisciplinary artist born, raised and based in Hong Kong. A keyboardist and singer-songwriter, Chan has performed in renowned venues in Hong Kong and the Twin Cities. Besides studying jazz vocals, Chan also studied traditional Ghanaian drumming under the tutelage of master drummer Sowah Mensah at Macalester College. The recipient of a grant from Renaissance Foundation Hong Kong’s Talent Development Scheme, Chan released the debut album Porcelain Soul (Universal Music Hong Kong) in 2015. Chan’s illustrations are featured in Sonia Wong’s poetry collection “Unseemingly Lasting” (MCCM) also published in the same year.

For singer-songwriter Vincy Chan, music is about finding your voice, having the confidence to speak up and tell your story, and inspiring others to do the same. On 11 February, Vincy returns to Freespace Happening with Vincy Chan & The Prototyke Lab, one of the projects featured on ‘Freespace Mixtape Vol. 1’ – which you can pick up on the day.
